Aftercare Guidelines
Taking care of your new tattoo is hugely important to how it heals and looks long-term. I spend just a short amount of time with your tattoo, the rest is one you. Read through these guidelines and follow the steps for each stage to ensure your tattoo heals as best as it can and stays crisp and vibrant for years to come.
If You’re Wearing Second Skin (Saniderm, Recovery Derm, etc.)
Leave it on for 3–5 days unless it starts to peel up around the edges or there's a lot of fluid buildup.
Keep an eye on it — if the edges are peeling and the tattoo underneath is exposed, it’s time to remove it. You don’t want bacteria sneaking in and getting trapped under the film.
Do not submerge the second skin (no baths, pools, hot tubs), but showering is totally fine.
When you're ready to remove it:
Do it under warm running water (like in the shower) to help loosen the adhesive.
Stretch the film off slowly, like a command strip — pull it low and parallel to your skin, not up and away. This helps avoid irritating or damaging the tattoo.
Once the second skin is off, start with the Day 1 aftercare instructions:
Gently wash your tattoo
Pat dry with a clean paper towel
Let it air dry completely
Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion
-
If you have saran wrap remove after 2-4 hours.
Once removed, wash your hands first, then gently clean your tattoo with unscented antibacterial soap and lukewarm water.
Pat dry with a clean paper towel—no rubbing. Let it air dry fully before applying anything.
Apply a thin layer of unscented lotion or ointment.
If you have second skin on you will do this step after 3-5 days.
-
Wash your tattoo twice a day with unscented antibacterial soap.
Pat dry gently with a clean paper towel, then let it air dry.
Apply a very light layer of lotion—just enough to keep it from drying out.
No picking, scratching, soaking, tanning, or swimming. Let it flake and heal naturally.
-
Always apply sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) when your tattoo is exposed to the sun.
Keep it moisturized when needed.
If your tattoo fades over time or needs a little love, feel free to book a touch-up.
